What type of content does The Plain Bagel post?

The Plain Bagel is an investment education channel. Most videos explain investment concepts that can be used to help viewers make their own investment decisions, however we occasionally post related personal finance, economics, and history videos. We DO NOT post stock pick or forecast videos.

Where does the name “The Plain Bagel” come from?

In university, I had a professor once say “if you can’t afford the cream cheese, get the plain bagel” when discussing spending habits. I thought nothing of it at the time, but when it came time to name my personal finance/investing channel it seemed like the right choice; while it’s far from a common idiom, it felt strangely suitable for a channel aiming to provide simple (or plain) investment information.

What’s your educational/ professional background?

I have a bachelors degree in finance from Carleton University as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst designation. I’m also currently pursuing a Certified Financial Planner designation. I’ve worked as a university study session facilitator for a first year economics course and have been in the investment field since graduating in 2015.

What do you do outside of YouTube?

I currently work as an investment analyst for an Ottawa-based wealth manager called WDS Investment Management, carrying out research and providing stock recommendations to portfolio managers. It’s a job that’s taught me a lot about the field, and I thoroughly enjoy the work I do.

How do you animate your videos?

I do all my animations myself through Adobe Premiere Pro; it’s a very amateur way of animating since the software is primarily a video-editing software, but hey, it works for me. Also I draw my pictures on PowerPoint…

What equipment do you shoot with?

I currently use a Panasonic LUMIX mirrorless camera, although my older videos were just shot on my iPhone (you can tell which ones). My microphone is a cheap one I bought online for under $20, and I use two Neewer-brand umbrella lights.
